about

Welcome to the Silicate Garden, the crystal palace of alien dreams, an audio guide to the landscape where transparent trees colour the light of a strange blue sun and characters play their roles with inconstant expressions.

Weldroid's 10th album marks the end of a period, and the beginning of something new. Let us then celebrate together.

"Re-visiting weldroid's peculiar world of bots and droids unveils some slight but pervasive changes: a new character has been added both visually and audibly. You can see her on the album cover and you will find her influence throughout this set of 10(?) new tracks that weldroid and his fellow architects illl and nomina crafted. But what is she/it? human or simulacrum? Life or the simulation thereof? Real or faithful reproduction? Puppet or puppeteer? Maybe you can find out.

This additional persona adds new, darker, even melancholic elements to weldroid's universe, which is obvious in the symphonic piece "dark winter", an evolving, bittersweet tale of reminiscences and retreat.

This selection of solo songs and collaborations, a true and complete album with an obvious red line through it and nicely framed by the complementary tracks "introvert" and "extrovert", gives you your personal tour through Weldroid's Silicate garden."
(Matthias Reinwarth)

"Whether working solo or with other collaborators, Weldroid shows his mastery of sound design and composition, skillfully blending glassy, swirling pads and scattershot effects. Noiseblips and distorted squarewaves recall the golden age of 8-bit gaming, mixed with signature bitcrushed percussion. Often enough, these jagged sounds are layered with smooth, gentle atmospheric chords and hauntingly beautiful piano passages. Somehow Weldroid makes it all work: the fusion of darker, edgy leads, cut-up beats, and steady, slow arpeggios, blurred into crystalline infinity.

The newest Weldroid record is a studied contrast between frenetic, aggressive textures and restrained, mellow interludes. The feverish energy from earlier releases is still present, but is now redirected into tightly focused bursts of glitch transmissions with a measured, melodic, thoughtful cadence."

weldroid Stockholm, Sweden

Those little robotic things living in the forest tend to like the noises he makes...

Weldroid is the 8- bit emulation of an electrical engineer, a cgi artist and a coffee connoisseur merged into one person and left alone in the middle of a forest in the middle of a forgotten peninsula built of discarded and ancient electronic devices and lots of copper wire. ... more
